MAS Houston Outreach Center
A key area of community work for MAS Houston focuses is to engage in educational and
interfaith outreach to our neighbor communities in order to promote understanding and
cooperation. The MAS Houston Outreach Center ("MAS Outreach") is therefore one of our most
important projects.
Educate: To increase the Houston community's interaction with and understanding of Islam and
Muslims.
Dialogue: To help different communities realize they have many shared interests, shared
perspectives and a shared stake in society.
Support: To provide welcoming, supportive, educational programs for those who have recently
become Muslim to help them develop a vibrant American Muslim identity.
Speakers Bureau: Presentations and workshops to address the tremendous need for
understanding and education regarding Islam and Muslims in our schools, community centers,
faith groups, social service agencies, and workplaces. Please contact us at
outreach@mashouston.org if you are interested in scheduling a speaker at your institution.
Community Building Events: Bringing residents of the greater Houston area together for
several large-scale, annual events that engender social interaction and community building
amongst diverse ethnic and religious.
Dialogue Groups: Small-group conversation series focusing on particular themes that are
significant across faith communities.
Library Initiative: Providing resources on Islam and Muslims, including reading lists,
multimedia and Internet references, to Houston area libraries and web site visitors.
Faith Support Groups: A weekly support group for newcomers to Islam that provides a
welcoming and open atmosphere to explorer issues of faith and identity. Attendees learn about
their religion and find a great forum for social support and making new friends.
