Tournaments

Every student will be strongly encouraged to participate in tournaments. The program will join tournaments mainly in Houston area, that are sanctioned by USA National Karate-do Federation/USA-NKF (www.usankf.org) as the official US Olympic karate and other tournaments that are suited to traditional shotokan karate. Other tournaments will be considered on case by case basis.

Curriculum

The technical objective of the karate program is to create well rounded martial artists that have excellent techniques, fast reflex, and strong fighting instinct. This will be achieved only if students have plenty of opportunities to apply what they have learned in classes. That is therefore, the karate program will have strong emphasis in application, sparing, and tournaments.
The karate program is based on traditional shotokan as the major framework and style. However, the program will not be rigidly practicing shotokan techniques. Basic, hands, stances, and body techniques are of shotokan. The use of breathing techniques is from Indonesian silat. Minor incorporations are kicking techniques that will be a combination of karate and taekwondo techniques.
As a student progresses to advance levels, he/she will also learn throw down and ground fighting techniques that will be adopted from judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
