Reflections on the Previous Year
Monday, January 04, 2010

As we enter into 2010, we reflect on the events that we have experienced the previous year. We muse over and celebrate the days that brought with them great harmony, and we grieve over the trials that may have tested our very strength. Yet at the end of the day, we thank God and we count our blessings. This is the very sentiment that we hold dear and the ideal by which we live. On December 25, nearly 300 people did just that when they were given another chance after an attempted attack had failed. The terrorist happened to be a Muslim who was erroneous in believing that murdering innocent people was justifiable. He hijacked Islam and had misguided illusions that he would be deemed a hero. Yet as soon as we heard of the attack, the Muslim community shook its head in dismay at this man’s horrific actions. The Muslim community would never accept these actions and we hope he serves his time for what he did. We have grown tired and very weary of crazy individuals who claim that their actions are in the name of God. We, the Muslim community not only condemn these individuals but insist that they be punished for endangering the public. And as we count down to the beginning of a new year, we can only pray that the following one will bring peace, harmony and understanding for all.
